House Edge – Oregon Casinos
Ever wonder how the casino stays in the green, pays the light bills, and everyone’s salary, plus gives away all of that free soda pop, casino comps, and coupons?
It’s a little something called the house edge. You wouldn’t call it cheating exactly, in fact, if you take the time to familiarize yourself with the house edge, as any person can, you can actually beat it, and come home from your casino vacation a winner.
To keep things real simple, the house edge is the probability that the casino will beat the player. Every casino game in Oregon, and everywhere else in the world, including online casinos have a house edge. The edge does vary however, depending on the game of choice, and the bet made. There are specific betting strategies put into play in fact to lower the house edge.
American Roulette – House Edge
If you’re playing American Roulette for instance, using standard American Roulette rules which you can find at most Oregon Casinos, including Chinook Winds and Spirit Mountain Casinos, the house edge is 5.26%, that means that the house is 5.26% more likely to win than the casino player.
There’s an exception to that rule though. If the player bets on the first five numbers, the 0, 00, 1 2 or 3, the house has a bigger edge. The house edge for those bets made at Oregon casinos is 7.89%.
There’s not really any strategy to lower the edge in a Roulette game, though there are some betting systems designed to minimize losses and maximize wins.
House Edge – Blackjack
Blackjack is one of the most player friendly games when it comes to the house edge. It’s the game that gives you the control, if a player uses strict simple blackjack strategy the player lowers the house edge drastically, in fact, the house edge can be as low as 0.5% if played correctly.
Blackjack generally has a house edge of somewhere between 2 and 3%, depending on how it’s played, how many decks are used, and whether the blackjack player stands or hits on a soft 17. A really easy way to figure out the edge at a specific blackjack game offered at one of the Oregon Casinos is by using this really neat tool offered by the Wizard of Odds.
Baccarat House Edge
Baccarat is available at Chinook Winds casino and at Wild Horse casino in Pendleton Oregon, but, as you might have guessed, not without a house edge.
In the game of Baccarat, the player has the choice of betting on either the player, or the banker. The banker has the house edge, so it would seem simple enough to gain the edge, but betting on the banker right? Wrong. Apparently, the house is onto that idea.
If the player wins a bet placed on the banker, the player has to pay the banker a commission of 5%. That’s not so bad, if you win $100, you get to keep $95. The remaining 5% goes back to the house.
The good news is however that the house edge is generally under 2% anyway.
Slot Machines – The Edge from these Pay the Rent!
Most land based casinos have a 12 to 20% house edge. There is no minimum or maximum payout percentage required by Oregon Law.
